"Our longest and most arduous journey is the eighteen inches between the head and the heart."

I am a psychotherapist serving Western Massachusetts, with an office in Northampton, Massachusetts. This website is a chance for me to introduce myself and tell about may main approach to psychotherapy. It contains information on office location, my specialties, a list of accepted insurances. I have also answered some frequently asked questions (FAQs) about psychotherapy as I practice it.

Psychotherapy is called the "talking cure," but it's a little hard to talk about.  Many years ago, I worked as a professional storyteller.  In the past twenty years, I have become a professional story listener.  I don't just listen with the ears--I use my gut and heart, too.  I try to help you get to the core of the story, what's really going on, beyond the events and the chatter.  I listen pretty actively—I may challenge you, ask you questions, try to get the feel of what is happening and what needs to happen for you.

I have a number of specialties in therapy, but in general the course of our work is shaped by you—your issues, your speed, your timing.  Although I have worked with many people with many situations over the years, I certainly don't have all the answers—you are the only person who really knows your life, so you are the final expert on your life and your decisions.  I will try to encourage you to look at your life situation in a number of different ways.  And I will openly share with you what I know—from my work with many people, from the research I have done and read, and from my own life experience.

Please note:  My West Springfield office was damaged by the June 2011 tornado.  The building is in receivership due to bankrupty by the owners, and has not been repaired since the storm.  The windows are still broken, and winter is approaching.  After waiting patiently for several months, I have reluctantly decided to close my office in West Springfield as of November 1, 2011, and will be consolidating my practice in my new Northampton office.  I regret any inconvenience this move may cause.
